I used to never make my bed in the morning because I thought it was such a waste of time. I mean who has the time to fold the blankets, organize a dozen pillows, and make sure it looks pretty? Well, that all changed as soon as I came across a YouTube video on how to make your bed like a designer. And let me tell you, it has changed the game for me!

Have you ever walked inside a Pottery Barn and wondered how they make their beds look like that. Or when you walk into a hotel room and the bed literally looks like a cloud. Well, I’m here to tell you that you can achieve the same look without breaking the bank to do so. Making your bed every morning doesn’t take as long as you’d think and will also make your bedroom look more organized and beautiful.

These 6 easy steps are the key to achieving that extra fluffy and cozy bed. I’ve also linked amazing bedding, pillows, and blankets that will help you turn your bed into a fluffy cloud.

Step One – Sheets

You’ll want to start off by placing the fitted sheet onto the bed first and following up with regular flat sheets. Don’t tuck anything in just yet because you’ll be doing that in step three.

Make sure you buy comfortable and breathable, high-quality sheets that are going to last you a long time. I recommend you buy at least two sets so that when one is in the laundry, you have the second one to fall back on.

When buying sheets, I suggest you stick to the neutral color palette because they literally go with everything. If you want to add color to your bedding, stick to soft colors like pale blue or green.

Step Two – Quilt

Now we’re going to place the quilt on top of the bedsheets. I absolutely love this step because it’s great for adding another layer of texture, creating more volume to the bed, and will also help in creating that fluffy look we’re trying to achieve.

If you don’t like quilts, you can opt for a thick blanket instead. I prefer quilts over blankets because they are light, airy, and in my opinion, look better. But it depends on your preference and which one you like more.

Step Three – Tuck Everything In

After you’ve placed the quilt on the bed, you’re going to tuck everything in and make it nice and neat.

If you want to create a nice little crease at the corner like they do at hotels, you can pull at the corners a little bit to try and recreate that crease before tucking it in. I know it might not make sense as you’re reading this but I promise you’ll know what I mean once you’re at this step.

Step Four – Duvet

The next step in how to make a bed look fluffy is adding and folding your duvet. Make sure you add the duvet insert and lay it down flat on the bed like you did everything else. Then fold it in half to the end of the bed. You can leave it like that but if you want to add more volume to create that extra cozy and fluffy bed, you’ll need to fold it in half once more.

Just pull up the top part of the duvet and fold it in half again by bringing it up. This will make the bed look more elevated and cozier by adding an extra layer of volume.

Step Five – Pillows

You do not need to pile 20 different pillows on your bed to make it look fluffy. I only keep 5 pillows on my bed — 2 sleeping pillows, and 3 decorative ones. I find this to be the perfect quantity and it makes my bed look super cute and cozy.

Of course, you can always add more or less depending on what your preferences are.

Step Six – Throw Blanket

The last step to achieving that Pottery Barn bed is adding a cute throw blanket. I literally just lay it down at the end of my bed and it always looks great.

There are so many different options for throw blankets but I recommend a knitted one just because I think it looks better and adds more texture.
