I don’t know about you guys but I am a book addict. I love reading! I think it is one of the most peaceful things anyone can do. I normally read romance novels like “A Court of Thorns and Roses” and “Fourth Wing”. I didn’t always used to read for pleasure though.
I was actually scrolling through TikTok one day and came across a girl describing the plot of one of Sarah J. Mass’s books and I was hooked! I immediately went to Amazon and ordered the series. That was three years ago. Needless to say, I’ve read plenty more since then.
Anyways, if you are a book girly like me and are looking for cute reading nook ideas for your home, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve gathered 38 insanely cozy and stunning reading nook decorating ideas that look like they came straight out of a fairytale. They are that good! READING NOOK ESSENTIALS
READING NOOK IDEAS
1. USE WALL SHELVES TO ORGANIZE

First things first, in order to create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, you need to organize your books. If you don’t have a lot of space to utilize, use the walls. Install wall shelves and place your books on there.
2. ORGANIZE ON THE SURFACE OF YOUR CABINET

This is another super simple and easy way to organize your books. If you don’t use the surface space of your dresser or cabinet, place your books there. You don’t have to spend extra money on buying shelves and it looks cute.
3. USE VERTICAL SHELVES

Vertical shelves are literally amazing! They are perfect if you live in a small apartment, or dorm room, or just don’t have a ton of space to spare.
You can place it behind your door, in an empty corner space, or literally inside your closet. It barely takes up any space but offers a lot. You can find this on Ikea or Amazon.
4. A ROLLING CART FOR ORGANIZATION

So many people sleep on rolling carts but I am a huge fan. They offer a ton of space to organize your books and are extremely cheap and durable.
If you plan on reading in the living room one day or your bedroom or somewhere else, you can easily roll the cart along with you.
5. ADD A COZY CHAIR

The number one thing I recommend you do first is buy yourself a cozy chair. If you plan on reading for hours, you need a comfortable place to sit and enjoy the book.
RECREATE THIS READING NOOK:
6. HANG UP FAIRY LIGHTS

To create an even cozier atmosphere, I suggest you hang up some fairy lights. You can get them from Amazon for insanely cheap. They add just the right amount of illumination and aren’t too harsh on the eyes.
7. USE CUSHIONS ON THE FLOOR

If you love to read on the floor, you know that after a while, you start to feel uncomfortable. The floor becomes too hard and cold, and overall, it is not a great experience.
To create a more comfortable space for you to read, grab those comfy couch cushions and put them on the floor. You can also buy cushions from Amazon or Etsy if you want something separate just for your nook.
8. CORNER READING NOOK

Do you have a corner in your home that you just can’t decide what to do with? If so, use that area to create your reading nook.
Buy a comfortable chair, an ottoman to put your legs up, a throw blanket to keep you toasty, and a rolling cart filled with all of your favorite books.
9. ADD A FLOOR LAMP

If you guys don’t already know, a lamp can help significantly reduce eye strain. If you are reading for a long time, chances are, you’ll feel some discomfort.
So, do yourself a favor and buy a floor lamp. You can place it behind a chair or a couch where you normally read. Plus, it adds as decor.
10. ADD LIGHTS TO YOUR BOOKSHELVES

I don’t know about you but I love the look of glowing books. It just makes the space feel so cozy and magical. You can get the fairy lights from Amazon and install them all along the shelves.
Or if you prefer, you can buy LED lights instead. I suggest you install these behind the books so you can’t really tell where the light is coming from.
11. ADD GREENERY

Greenery is going to be your best friend when trying to brighten the place up.
If your reading nook doesn’t have windows or there isn’t much natural sunlight, fake plants or even real plants will do wonders in making the space feel brighter.
It is also a great way to incorporate nature into your home.
12. USE THE AREA AT THE FOOT YOUR BED

If you live in a small apartment or dorm room and are looking for ways to create a cozy reading nook that doesn’t take up a bunch of space, I suggest you use the foot of your bed.
There is usually a little space at the end of your bed. You can add a bookshelf there to separate the area. Include a chair and a cute rug along with some greenery.
13. BUY AN EGG CHAIR

I don’t know about you but I love egg chairs. They are seriously so amazing. They are comfortable, cute, and most importantly, affordable. You can look on Amazon, Ikea, or Wayfair.
You can also add some fairy lights around the chair to create a cozy ambiance.
14. READING NOOK CANOPY

When you read books sometimes, don’t you feel like you want to engulf yourself inside the story and cut off the real world? Do just that by adding a canopy above your reading chair.
There are so many different options for reading nook canopies. You can add some lights on the inside or out for the perfect amount of illumination.
15. WINDOW SEAT READING NOOK

I am a sucker for window seats. I think they add so much character to the room. If you happen to have one in your bedroom, transform that space into your own little reading nook.
There is usually a bookshelf installed on one or both sides, if not you can just buy one to store your books. If there is a space below the seat you can use that as well.
If you don’t have a window seat in your room but love the look, you can buy a bench from Amazon and place that in front of your window. Make it comfy by adding cushions, pillows, and blankets.
16. COLOR COORDINATE YOUR BOOK

I don’t know what it is but organizing your books by color just looks so good. It looks so much more cohesive and neat than if you were to just place random books on the shelves.
17. BLACONY READING NOOK

If you have a spacious enough balcony, transform that area into your reading nooks. How amazing would it be to read your books and listen to the birds chirping every morning?
The smell of freshly cut grass and the windy breeze, ugh! It sounds too good to be true, haha! Buy a couple of bookshelves to organize your books and don’t forget your comfy chair.
If your balcony doesn’t have doors or a roof, I would recommend covering it with something before you go back inside just in case it rains and ruins your books.
18. TRANSFORM YOUR CLOSET

I’ve been seeing so many people turning their closets into reading nooks lately. At first, I thought it was crazy but I now understand what a great idea that is.
If you have an empty closet that you have no use for, why not designate that area as your reading nook?
Install a bench, and some shelves, and add pillows, throw blankets, and fairy lights for the perfect amount of illumination.
19. GET A LOVESEAT

I love couches! They are so comfy. You just have to be careful which one you buy because not all of them are the same.
If you have an area in your house that you want to transform into a reading nook but, a regular chair makes the space feel too big and a couch doesn’t fit, then go with a loveseat.
They are the perfect size, super comfy, and will make the space feel cozier. Just make sure to measure before buying.
20. INSTALL CURTAINS

If you have big windows that let in a lot of sunlight, you need to install curtains. No one wants to be blinded by bright light when you’re trying to find out if they are finally going to kiss.
So, go on Amazon and buy some curtains. You know what will make the curtains look even better? By adding fairy lights on top of them that’s what. Honestly, they just make everything look better, haha!
21. BELOW THE STAIRS

If you have stairs in your home, then you probably have an empty space below it. Transform that area into your own little reading nook.
Get a loveseat/couch, pillows, and blankets, and also install some bookshelves on the wall.
22. WOVEN BASKET FOR ORGANIZATION

Woven baskets are another one of my favorite things ever. They are amazing for storing unwanted things.
In this case, you can use them to store your books, or after you finish reading a book you can place it inside the basket.
After it becomes full, take a minute or two to put everything back on the shelves.
23. ADD SOME WALLPAPER

I am a huge fan of wallpaper. They add so much character and personality to any space.
Instead of hiring someone to do it and spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars, do it yourself using peel-and-stick wallpaper.
There are so many options and are much more affordable.
24. TRANSFORM YOUR ATTIC

Most people don’t use their attic or if they do, they just store unwanted miscellaneous things there.
If you are one of those people, take everything to the garage and transform your attic into a cozy reading nook.
Install bookshelves on the wall, and add a bench, rug, fairy lights, pillows, cushions, and of course blankets.
25. ACCENT WALL

When you enter your reading nook, what is the first thing you look at? Probably your bookshelves with all of your favorite books.
Am I right? Make that bookshelf pop out even more by painting the wall behind it. You can go as bold or as light as you want.
Some like a black accent wall while others prefer a light pink shade. It all depends on your preference.
26. USE A LADDER SHELF

Ladder shelves are great for small spaces. They offer plenty of space to store your books and then some. You can hang extra blankets, incorporate cute decorations, and add some greenery to brighten things up.
27. GET AN OTTOMAN WITH STORAGE

An ottoman is great for when you want to kick your legs up and relax. If you live in a small apartment or have too many books and not enough shelves, get one with storage space.
You can keep your books inside and it’ll still look super cute.
28. GET A COUCH

A reading chair is great and all but what about when you want to read while lying down? This is where the couch comes in.
Find an affordable and comfy couch on Amazon and add that to your reading room. Include lots of pillows and blankets to make it cozy and cute.
29. UPSIDE DOWN SHELF

I know I’m not the only one thinking it, the upside-down shelf is insanely cool. After searching online for a few minutes, I found it on Amazon.
It is very cheap so it won’t hurt your pockets and it has built in bands to keep the books in place. You can buy it here.
30. AN OFFICE READING NOOK

If you don’t have any other room to spare, divide your office space and create your reading nook there. If you spend a lot of time in your office or if you work from home, this is a great idea.
You can read a couple of chapters between breaks and don’t have to go anywhere to grab a book because it’ll already be there.
Just make sure to not keep any trinkets and books on your work desk so you can focus.
31. ADD NEON SIGNS

Neon signs are super cute and great for decoration. You can go look on Etsy for hundreds of amazing options. I found a cute one that says “One more chapter”. You can get it here.
32. BUY PLUSHIES

I don’t know about you but I love plushies! They are super cute and you can also snuggle up with them. You can change them out every season if you’d like or just buy a couple and leave it at that.
33. BY THE WINDOW

Grab a comfy chair and place it by the window. Install a couple of bookshelves behind it and add some throw pillows and cute blankets for the final touch.
This can be your reading nook when it starts raining. There is just something so calming and relaxing about the sound of rain that I just can’t get enough of.
34. HANG UP QUOTES

I know we book girlies have our fair share of favorite book quotes. Instead of buying them online, print them out yourself and frame them.
One of my favorites that always brings tears to my eyes is “it’s been my honor”. If you know you know.
35. HAVE A SPOT IN YOUR LIVING ROOM

Sometimes when you want to spend time with your hubby/boyfriend or friends, having a designated comfy spot in your living room is key.
This is great for when you want to be in each other’s company but are doing your own thing.
36. HANGING CHAIR

Hanging chairs are super fun. You can swing around in them and they are also super comfortable. Add a couple pillows and blankets in there so you stay nice and cozy.
37. USE THE FLOOR

Switch it up a bit and use a comfy floor mat instead of a chair. You can lie down and read, stretch, or even just take a quick power nap before reading again. You can find these on Amazon or Etsy.
38. SIMPLE READING NOOK

Last but definitely not least, we have this amazing simple reading nook. I recommend getting rid of all of the clutter you may have in your reading nook. You want to make sure the space is always looking as good as it can.
