NEW YEARS EVE PARTY IDEAS
1. BALLOON GARLAND BACKDROP
What fun is NYE if we don’t take pictures, am I right? Set up a fun photo backdrop near a wall or corner by adding a bunch of balloons. Add lots of gold black, and silver to make it pop.
2. CHEERS PHOTO BACKDROP
Here is another super cute photo backdrop idea. You’ll need to first hang up a tinsel curtain and add a letter balloon garland that spells “cheers”.
Then create a cute photo booth picture frame using cardboard, spray paint, and stickers.
3. BAR CART
Set up a bar cart that has lots of champagne so everyone can toast to the new year.
Make sure to make it an NYE theme by adding balloons, a clock on the side, and of course lots of glitz and glam.
4. NYE CENTERPIECE
How cute is this? If you’re hosting an intimate party/gathering with just your close friends, then you need to include a table centerpiece.
Grab a gold plate and a slightly smaller black plate. You can get these from the dollar store for really cheap. Also, buy a glass and a cylinder vase.
Make the glass and the faux stems for the vase shine bright by spray painting them with gold glitter spray paint.
For the finishing touches, place a small flameless tealight inside the glass and add an NYE-themed candle. I absolutely love this one from Etsy. It smells incredible and is cheap.
5. NEW YEARS HATS
New Year’s top hats are a must for any party. You’ll have loads of fun using them for photos and at the end of the night, guests can take them home to remember the fun time they had.
If you want to purchase these hats, I suggest you check out Etsy. They always have great options there for really low prices.
6. GLITTER LUMINARY JARS
Light up the night with these gorgeous luminary jars. First, grab your supplies. You’ll need gold glitter, glue, a mini mason jar, and tealights.
Begin by brushing on some glue on the bottom portion of the jar. Let it get tacky and place your glitter on there. You can either dip it or just pour the glitter directly on the jar.
Let that dry down and place a tealight inside to make it glow.
7. GLITTER CHAMPAGNE BOTTLES
Glam up the night by incorporating these gorgeous glittered champagne bottles. You can actually hold a sleepover with your besties and decorate them together.
It’s a great way to spend some time together and you’re guaranteed to have fun. You’ll need glue and sparkly glitter of your choosing.
If you want to go a step further, you can add a cute little bow on top.
8. CENTERPIECE WITH ORNAMENTS AND BEADS
If you’re looking for super cheap New Years party centerpiece ideas, then this is the one for you!
You’ll just need to get a couple of clear vases, gold, silver, and black ornaments, and beaded necklaces. All of which are available on Amazon.
For the beaded necklaces, I suggest the colors gold and silver since those are the most popular for New Years.
Now all you have to do is place them inside the vase and find a spot where you want the centerpieces to go.
9. MIDNIGHT KISSES
How freaking adorable is this?! If you’re looking for simple party favors for your guests, this is a great idea. Buy a bunch of gold and silver Hershey’s Kisses and place them in clear bags.
Secure the opening with a tag that says “New Year wishes and midnight kisses”. I found a pretty similar one on Etsy if you’d like to buy it.
10. DISCO BALL CENTERPIECE
Disco balls are present at almost every party. They are honestly super fun and they also reflect light which is great for creating more glam and glitz.
You can also use them to create a stunning table centerpiece. First, place a faux fur table runner on the table for a luxurious look.
Then, grab a few disco balls varying in size and arrange them how you’d like. If you want to add more glow, place a few flameless tea lights throughout the arrangement.
11. LUCKY PENNY
There is an old wives’ tale that says if you have a penny in your pocket on New Years Eve, you’ll have good luck all year long.
Regardless of whether there is any truth behind this or not, it’s a fun tradition that won’t hurt anyone if they do believe it.
So, make sure you and all of your guests start the new year with loads of good luck by creating these adorable party favors.
Simply use some tape to secure a penny on a card and place it in a bowl. Have guests each take one as they enter so all of them can start the year off right!
12. CONFETTI BOX
Place black and gold confetti in small boxes. Tell guests to take one as they enter and have them toss it up in the air at 12 A.M to celebrate the new year.
13. NEW YEARS EVE BINGO
No one wants to stand up all night and just talk. Ok, well, maybe some do but, it never hurts to have a couple of fun activities planned out for the evening.
I suggest going with Bingo since everyone is familiar with it and knows how to play. Even if they don’t, it’s very easy to explain.
The bingo game board above is specifically designed for New Year’s. It is also great if there are going to be kids present at your party. This should keep them entertained all night, haha!
You can download the PDF here.
14. NEW YEARS TABLE SETTING
Since we’re decorating everything else for New Year’s, we should probably create a stunning New Years themed tablescape too.
You can get all of the supplies needed to recreate this idea from the dollar store.
You’ll need gold and black plates, gold/silver beaded necklaces, gold and silver tinsel, and a few cardboard pieces to make the faux clock.
To make the clock, cut out a circle and make sure it fits inside the plate. Now just copy down the number and make the hands pointing at 12.
15. CHAMPAGNE ICE BUCKET
There is nothing worse than serving your guests a glass of warm champagne. Fine, that’s an exaggeration but seriously, champagne tastes a thousand times better when served chilled.
So grab an ice bucket (preferably black or gold so it’s on theme) and fill it up with lots of ice. Place your champagne bottles in there so they remain cool through the entire night.
If you want to take it a step further, you can place flameless candles or fairy lights there as well to add more glow.
16. BLACK CANDLES
How stunning is this tablescape? Place a sparkly table runner down the middle and add gold tapered candle holders with black candles.
I absolutely love the look of those two together. Incorporating candles is great for two things. One, for the glow and illumination. And two, it creates a more cozy and intimate atmosphere.
I definitely recommend you break them outif it’s just you and your close friends.
17. NEW YEARS MANTLE DECOR
If you’re celebrating New Year’s at home and are looking for cute New Years Eve party ideas to recreate, then this is the one for you.
Whether it’s just you and your family or just your close friends, you’ll most likely be spending the most amount of time in the living room.
So make sure it’s blinged out for New Year’s by hanging up gold and silver tinsels and a “Happy New Year” garland.
You can also incorporate some black, silver, and gold balloons on the mantel or on the ground.
18. NEW YEARS CHARCUTERIE BOARD
I am a huge fan of charcuterie boards. They are insanely fun to make, look amazing, and are a great way to serve your guests with some appetizers and snacks throughout the party.
So make a New Year’s Eve-themed charcuterie board with lots of chocolates, crackers, pretzels, Nutella (for dip), mini marshmallows, and wafers. This is sure to be a hit at your gathering.
You can check out the tutorial here.
19. ADD A FANCY ELEMENT TO YOUR DRINK
Drinking champagne by itself is great on its own. But why stop at great when you can have incredible, haha?!
Adding a fancy element to your drink is loads of fun. It makes the drink look better and also adds to the overall vibe and decoration of the party.
You can simply add one tinsel stick to each glass of champagne to bring it up a notch. Make sure the tinsels are either silver or gold so they are on theme.
I found these gorgeous silver and gold tinsel sticks on Etsy for only 22 dollars and, they come in a pack of 50. Sounds pretty good to me!
20. CHAMPAGNE JELLO SHOTS
Jello shots anyone? These are sure to be a huge hit at your party. They look super pretty on a serving tray and there won’t be any spills happening since it’s jello.
I know some people prefer to drink champagne in a regular glass instead of in jello form so don’t entirely remove those. Include both so guests can choose what they want.
Take a look at the tutorial here.
21. NEW YEARS EVE TREE
Who says Christmas trees are only for Christmas? Granted it’s got the name but, you can decorate it however you want and for any Holiday.
For New Year’s, try to add gold, silver, and black ornaments, and make sure to include lots of glitter. You can also add a New Year’s Eve-themed garland and a top hat for the topper.
Incorporate a clock and if you want to take it a step further, you can buy a bottle of gold or silver glitter, and just spray the entire tree.
22. NEW YEARS TIERED TRAY
If you want something simple and super cute, give this a try! Buy a 3-tiered tray from Amazon.
There are a bunch of different options and styles to choose from so pick one that speaks to you.
Then, just add in your decorative items. Think gold and silver beaded necklaces, lots of tinsels, glitter, a top hat, and of course a New Years Eve sign to finish it off.
23. GLITTER CHAMPAGNE FLUTES
As I said earlier, one of the main requirements for a New Years Eve party is that it needs to have lots of glitter and sparkles.
This includes the glasses we’re drinking out of. Buy a pack of plastic Champagne flutes so you don’t ruin the actual glass ones (they are expensive, lol).
You’ll also need Mod Podge, a paintbrush, glitter, and a plastic bag. You can find the entire tutorial here.
24. FOOD TABLE
Every party needs a food table. Since most New Year’s Eve parties start later in the evening, finger foods and light snacks are the most popular options to serve.
Include things like popcorn, chocolates, sliders, cheese and crackers, and of course lots of drinks.
You’ll also want to incorporate a New Year-themed tablecloth, paper plates, and napkins. You can also add a tinsel garland and a Happy New Year garland as well.
25. NEW YEAR’S EVE GAME
Looking for fun New Years Eve party ideas and games to play? Look no further because this is the only game you need to keep your guests and yourself entertained.
This is a (free) printable game you can bring literally anywhere. It’s insanely easy to play and is also family-friendly if you’re worried about children being present.
These cards have simple questions people need to answer and they are also a great way to get everyone talking. You can take a look here.
26. THE TWELVE GRAPES OF LUCK
The twelve grapes of luck or “las doce uvas de la suerte” is a Spanish tradition that dates back to 1895. Basically, you’ll have to eat one grape with each of the clock bell strikes at midnight.
The twelve grapes represent the twelve months in the year and eating the grapes is said to bring good luck and prosperity the whole year.
So start your year off right and serve these at your New Year’s Party. You can place the grapes in skewers and fill the glasses with champagne or any other drink.
27. FUN GLASSES
I love these glasses! You can include them as props for photos. Create a nice little table in a corner by the photo booth or backdrop.
Add silver and gold glasses, beaded necklaces, and any other fun accessories you want that guests can use to take fun pictures.
28. BALLOON POP COUNTDOWN
This is such a fun concept to recreate. If you’re planning on spending New Year’s with just your family or a close group of friends, then you should definitely recreate this.
You’ll need to come up with activities to do for each hour until midnight. This can be baking cupcakes, decorating T-shirts, taking a snack break, and literally anything else.
Write these down on a small piece of paper and place them inside a balloon. Now fill the balloons with air and write down the time on the balloon for when you’ll need to pop it.
That’s basically it. You’ll have loads of fun doing these activities and you don’t have to spend any money. Except for the balloons, haha!
Check out the tutorial here.
29. GOLD BALLOONS
If you’re looking for something simple or a last-minute party decor idea, then simply hang up gold balloons. If you don’t like gold, try silver or black so it’s still on theme with New Year’s.
Use double-sided tape to attach them to the ceiling.
30. CLOCK CAKE
First of all, how insanely good does this cake look? It almost looks too good to eat (I said almost, lol). This New Year’s Eve cake is actually very easy to make.
It’s very on theme and festive so it also adds to the party decor. This is perfect for a small group of people.
If you’re planning on hosting a larger party with a crowd, then you’ll need to bake a few more so it’s enough for everyone.
Take a look at the tutorial here.
31. NEW YEARS TRUTH OR DARE
This is another one of my favorite New Years Eve party ideas. It’s truth or dare but a more romantic version for the adults.
First, you’ll need to print out the truth or dare printables, which you can find here. Then attach the truth or dare on the bottom of a Hershey’s Kiss and have guests take turns picking one.
32. DIY NOISEMAKERS
If you’re looking for a fun New Years Eve craft idea to recreate for yourself or the kids, this is a fantastic one that you’ll love making.
You can make these DIY noisemakers using popsicle sticks, decorative tape, gold ribbons, bells, and some tinsels.
It’s a great activity to get the kids involved and it’s also amazing for creating cheer at your New Years party. Check out the tutorial here.
33. PHOTO BOOTH GUEST BOOK
Instead of having guests write down their names on a notepad or a guestbook, have them take a cute picture of themselves and place it inside an envelope.
I think this is such a great alternative to just having them write down their names because you’ll know exactly who was there and what name belongs to what face.
Sometimes, there are names you forget or have a hard time remembering and that’s when these pictures come in handy.
It’s also great for looking back and remembering all of the fun memories you’ve made.
34. NEW YEARS WREATH
Welcome guests inside with this fun New Years wreath. I know the real party starts inside but it never hurts to dress up your front door.
Plus, it’s the first thing guests see when they arrive so it needs to look good. You can buy a black wreath and add in gold and glittery ribbons.
You can also add in some fun beads and mini hats to finish the look.
35. SPARKLING MINI PARFAITS
This looks so good! My mouth is watering just by looking at it, haha! If you’re coming up with desserts to serve at your party, include this on your list as well.
It’s a fun way to bring some festive cheer to your food and it’s insanely easy to make.
You’ll just need pound cake, lemon curd, custard or pudding, chocolate fudge, whipped cream, and some sparkling gold sugar to top it off.
Take a look at the tutorial here.
36. NEW YEARS EVE CAKE BALL DROPS
This is the perfect sweet treat to serve at your Party! It’s insanely good and is very easy to make.
You can make them a couple of days before your party to lighten the list of things you need to do.
Once you are done making these cake ball drops, stick a gold or silver tinsel stick in them to make it more festive.
Check out the full tutorial here.
37. OREO COOKIE CLOCKS
How fun are these? This is kind of like the clock cake except a lot easier to make and each guest can get their own individual cookie.
You can also make a whole bunch of these in very little time so that’s a plus.
You’ll need black candy melts, packages of black and white fondant, sprinkles, black jimmies, gold sugar, black edible markers, and white chocolate.
That was a pretty long list of ingredients but it is very simple to make. Here is the full tutorial.
38. SPARKLING NEW YEARS EVE PUNCH
I know the most common drink to serve at a New Years party is champagne because it symbolizes good luck and prosperity, and so we can toast to the new year.
But not all people drink alcoholic beverages so make this punch instead for those who don’t and for children. This punch requires only two ingredients, which is unbelievable!
Three if you’re counting ice but even then, it’s extremely easy and fast to make. You’ll need white grape juice concentrate and fresca.
Take a look at the full tutorial here.
39. DIY STAR CHAMPAGNE FLUTES
Since everything else is so glam and glitz at a New Years party, show your champagne flutes a little love too.
Recreate these stunning New Years Eve star champagne flutes with your besties or family.
You’ll need star hand punch, masking tape, gold spray paint, and of course champagne flutes. Take a look at the full tutorial here.
40. NYE PARTY FAVORS
Show your guests a little appreciation and send them home with this stunning New Years Eve party favor.
Grab a festive New Years top hat and place your items in there. The one above includes a mini champagne bubble bottle, party poppers, glow sticks, New Year’s horn, and shutter sunglasses.
You can of course switch out the items and include whatever else you want. Here is the full tutorial.
41. MIDNIGHT MINTS
This is definitely one of the best New Years Eve party ideas I’ve come across. As we all know, most people kiss when the clock strikes 12.
It’s a New Years tradition that is supposed to strengthen the bond with your partner which I’m all for.
Anyway, you should definitely include a pack of mints on the table so guests can take one a few minutes before midnight.
Nobody wants to be kissing anyone if their breath smells bad. This will ensure it’s minty fresh, haha!
You can just buy a pack of icebreakers or mint lifesavers and transfer them to a different container.
42. NEW YEARS HANGOVER KIT
Last but definitely not least, we have this incredibly thoughtful New Years hangover kit. You can give these to your guests as party favors.
Fill it with items that they’ll probably need the next day. For instance Tylenol, Emergen-c packets, mint altoids, Hershey’s Kisses, and then just tie the bag with a cute ribbon.
Find the tutorial here.
