As someone who lives in a small apartment, I can tell you firsthand how difficult it is to get things organized and make them stay that way. I feel like smaller bedrooms tend to get messy faster or look messy is mainly because of their size. If we were to compare a larger bedroom to a smaller one with the same amount of clutter, I can almost guarantee the smaller bedroom would look a lot more messy.
If you need a few ideas to get your small bedroom to look the best as it can, you’ve come to the right place. This post will show you 28 insanely good and budget-friendly small bedroom organization ideas that you need to recreate. You can also DIY a few of these ideas for all of the girlies who like to get hands-on.
The number one thing you need to do before incorporating any of these ideas is declutter. Since your bedroom doesn’t have a bunch of space, you’re going to want to either throw out or donate some of your stuff. First, start with your clothes. If there is clothing that you haven’t worn at least once in the past couple of months, I suggest you put that in the donate pile.
Go through your makeup, shoes, and accessories and do the same thing. I also want to suggest that you vacuum your room at least once a week so it stays looking fresh and clean. If you have carpet/rug in your room and it’s not looking so good, sprinkle some baking soda and a few drops of essential oils and leave it for a few hours or overnight.
Then just vacuum everything. This will help deodorize your carpet and also remove the stains and dirt that’s been sitting there. You can repeat the same thing for your mattress as well. Now, let’s take a look at these small bedroom organization ideas!

SMALL BEDROOM ORGANIZATION IDEAS
1. USE A BULLETIN BOARD
I absolutely love this idea for small spaces. If you lose your scrunchies or jewelry often and are thinking about creating a station for it but have zero space to do so, a bulletin board is going to be your best friend.
Just grab one from Walmart or Amazon and install it to your desired wall space. Use push pins to make little hooks to hang up your scrunchies, necklaces, bracelets, and other items.
2. OVER THE DOOR PANTS ORGANIZER
If you live in a small apartment then you know closet space is virtually nonexistent. You barely have enough space to hang your tops and you’re lucky if you get a shelf.
Which is why I love over-the-door organizers so much. They don’t take up any wall space or floor space. You literally hang it over your door and start organizing.
If you have a lot of pants and jeans in your wardrobe, get an over-the-door shoe organizer from Amazon. Just roll the bottoms into tight cylinders like above and place them on the racks
3. USE A BOOKSHELF TO ORGANIZE MAKEUP
If you own a lot of makeup but don’t have the space for a vanity, just buy a small bookshelf and use that to organize your products.
You can use the top flat surface as a desk as you would on a vanity and keep your makeup in the shelves. If there is extra space left over, use that to organize books, shoes, or clothes.
4. USE HANGING SHOE ORGANIZER FOR BEAUTY PRODUCTS
This is one of my favorite small bedroom organization ideas on this list. You can find really cheap, plastic hanging shoe organizers on Amazon that you can use for your makeup or beauty products.
Don’t let the tiny compartments fool you because they hold so much stuff. You can use it to store your makeup products, skincare, hair care, hot tools, and literally anything else.
5. FOLD YOUR CLOTHES
This is fairly obvious but most people don’t fold their clothes (including myself). I typically am so tired from work and classes that I don’t have the energy to go and fold my clothes.
But let me tell you, it makes the biggest difference. I know it may not seem like a huge deal but trust me when I say it does. Not only is it visually appealing but, small apartment bedrooms are already tiny.
So when you just leave your clothes out and about, it makes that already small space look even smaller. So, do yourself a favor and fold your clothes!
6. PULL-OUT DRAWERS FOR ORGANIZATION
If you want to create more space in your closet, these pull-out drawers are amazing. They are super easy to install and offer lots of extra space to keep your belongings.
One way you can use this to make your closet less crowded is by storing seasonal clothes.
For example, once winter is over, keep all of your sweaters and jackets in the drawers to free up some space in your closet rack for other clothes that you will actually wear.
7. USE COMMAND HOOKS ON THE SIDE OF THE CABINET
When you live in a small apartment bedroom, you gotta work with what you have. If you have a cabinet, armoire, or bookshelf in your bedroom, utilize the side of the furniture to organize your jewelry.
This idea is also AMAZING if you live in a dorm room. They also offer minimal space so this is one hack that will come in handy.
All you need to do is attach some command hooks on the side and hang up your jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets, and rings are all things you can hang up on the hooks.
And the great thing about this is, they won’t damage your furniture when you want to remove them.
8. CREATE UNDER THE BED STORAGE
This is one thing on the list that I’ve actually recreated. I used to live in a dorm and literally every room you walk past, their beds will look like this.
Dorms don’t offer a lot of space and most of the time you’re sharing that already small space with a roommate.
So, under the bed was our go-to solution for creating extra storage space. Now you can do this one of two ways.
You can buy a bed frame that already has drawers built in or, you can buy a taller bed frame so you can slide storage baskets under. If you don’t like how it looks, you can simply add a bed skirt that will cover everything.
9. ROTATING SHOE RACK
Do you have a lot of shoes but not enough space? No problem there, buy a rotating shoe rack from Amazon that offers a bunch of space to organize your footwear.
They are very affordable and you can use the rotating shoe rack to organize other items as well like purses, perfume, decorations, and books.
10. ORGANIZE YOUR PURSES
If you are a purse girly and have lots of bags, wallets, and purses, you need to get an over-the-door storage rack. As I mentioned earlier, they offer lots of storage and won’t take up any space in your bedroom.
11. USE CURTAIN RODS FOR HATS
If you own a lot of hats and need a space where you can organize them without taking up too much space, use curtain rods.
You can find the small curtain rods on Amazon. You’ll want to install them on your desired wall. I recommend behind your door since that space doesn’t get used much.
Make sure you buy some curtain rings with clips to hang up your hats.
You can also hang up beanies, gloves, and other items of clothing as well. It doesn’t take up much space, and if I’m being honest, it kinda looks good.
12. USE WIRE BASKETS TO ORGANIZE SHOES
I absolutely love this idea. This is another back-of-door organization idea you can recreate with ease. First, you’ll want to attach a couple of command hooks, then grab your wired baskets and simply hang them on.
That’s literally all you have to do! If you don’t like how it looks on your door, you can follow the steps and set it up anywhere you’d like.
After you’re done, just place your shoes and sandals inside. They’ll be organized and in one place.
13. SHELF ROLLING CART
I did have one of these in my dorm room. They are amazing for small spaces. You can use it to decorate, as a bookshelf, vanity, and literally anything in between.
They have three shelves so you can use each one for different purposes. The first one can be a nightstand and you can keep things like a glass of water, lip balm, hand lotion, and a lamp there.
The second shelf could be used for storing your makeup products and the third for miscellaneous items.
14. LADDER SHELF AS A BOOKSHELF
First of all, can we discuss how beautiful this looks? OMG! It’s literally so aesthetic and the lights around it are just “chef’s kiss”!
Sometimes bookshelves can be too big and bulky, which we obviously do not want in a small bedroom. So I recommend using a ladder shelf instead.
They barely take up any space and look pretty da*n good. You can organize your books how you normally would on a bookshelf and you can also keep some of your stationary items there as well.
If you don’t read books, you can still use the ladder shelf for other purposes. Such as organizing extra clothing, adding more decor to your room, as a makeup organizer, and purse organizer, and so much more!
15. USE ACRYLIC TRAYS FOR DRAWER ORGANIZATION
I think everyone is familiar with these desk organizing trays right? They are great for getting your messy drawers back into tip-top shape.
You can use them to separate your things inside the drawer and to keep it neat and tidy. For example, use one compartment for scrunchies, another for hair tools, another for hair care, and so on.
16. USE WICKER BASKETS
I’ve said this so many times already but wicker baskets are literally your best friend. They are incredible when it comes to organization and storage.
If you have miscellaneous items lying around like computer wires, notebooks, old pillows, blankets, etc. You can keep them in the wicker baskets.
They will stay organized, no one will see what’s inside, and they are compact making them perfect for small spaces.
If you have a bunch of things you want to keep in the baskets categorically, then I suggest labeling them so it is easier to find what you’re looking for.
17. HANGING SHELF ORGANIZER
If you need to make some extra room for your clothes, hats, purses, shoes, or literally anything else, buy a hanging closet shelf from Amazon.
You can choose how many shelves you want and they are all pretty cheap. Instead of hanging up 2 or 3 tops, you can use that space to hang the shelf and get much more space to use.
18. USE WALL MOUNTED HOOKS FOR PANTS
Another way to organize your small bedroom is by installing small wall-mounted hooks. You can use them to hang up all of your pants, jeans, shorts, and skirts.
You’ll want to buy mini hangers with clips so they don’t take up unnecessary space. You can also use the hooks to hang boots, purses, tops, and coats.
You can install them below a wall shelf and a little closer together since you’ll be using the mini hangers. If you’re not, you should probably keep them a little further apart, haha!
19. USE BABY HANGERS FOR FLIP FLIPS
This is actually brilliant. If I had come across this when I was living in a dorm room, I would definitely be recreating it.
If you have a bunch of flips or strappy heels and sandals, use baby hangers to organize them. Put the flip-flops on the hook part and hang it up.
It’s such a cheap and easy solution to keep your shoes organized.
20. HANGERS AND CURTAIN RINGS TO ORGANIZE SCARVES
This is another super easy organization idea that is perfect for small bedrooms. All you need are a couple of hangers and some plastic curtain rings.
You can use them to organize your scarves or ties.
They don’t take any space and there is no chance of misplacing it or spending 30 minutes trying to find that one scarf that would “go perfectly with the outfit”, haha!
21. HANGERS TO ORGANIZE BRAS
I don’t know about you but I just shove all of my bras in a drawer and don’t think twice about it. I need to stop doing that and so should you.
This bra-organizing hack will save you time and money. All you need to do is put the bras on the hanger and place them on the closet rod.
You’ll save so much closet space by hanging the bras in a vertical direction.
You can hang each one after the first on the little rod on the hangers. You’ll see all of the bras you have and can quickly grab the one you’re looking for.
22. FLOATING VANITY
If you want a vanity in your room to get ready in the morning but have virtually zero space, worry not because I have the perfect idea for you.
Buy yourself a floating shelf and install that on your desired wall space. Get a cute little vanity chair and a small cabinet to organize your make and you have got yourself a tiny vanity.
It is super easy to recreate and works just the same as a regular vanity.
23. CLUTTER-FREE NIGHTSTAND
First things first, you’ll want to opt for a small nightstand instead of getting a bigger one because space is already limited.
Get one that is big enough to keep your essentials on but small enough that it doesn’t take up unnecessary space.
Make sure you keep your bedside table clutter-free and organized. As we discussed earlier, clutter only makes your room appear smaller. So make sure everything is in tip-top shape.
24. UNDER THE BED STORAGE SPACE
There is so much extra space underneath your bed. Why not make use of it? I highly suggest you buy a couple of storage bins that fit under your bed.
You can keep your long boots there, seasonal clothing, or things you don’t want people to see. You can literally use that space for anything you want.
25. FLOATING “NIGHTSTAND”
This is along the lines of the floating vanity idea. All you need to do is install a floating shelf next to your bed.
You can keep a little lamp there, lip balm, the current book you’re reading, and other essentials you reach for. It works just the same as a side table except, without taking up any space.
26. USE HONEYCOMB DIVIDERS FOR UNDERGARMENTS
Does anyone else have the hardest time folding their undies? They always end up looking so ugly, haha! If you’re in the same boat as me, you can buy honeycomb dividers from Amazon for your drawers.
They have little compartments to put your underwear in and they are insanely cheap. All you need to do is roll up your underwear and place them in the compartments.
27. INCORPORATE A DESK HUTCH
Need some extra space on your desk? An easy hack to make more space is by adding a desk hutch. They are add-ons you can put on top of your desk to create more room.
You can find a bunch of options on Amazon so definitely check it out.
28. VERTICAL WALL SHELF
If you are a body care collector or just happen to have a lot of products, you can use a vertical wall shelf to organize them.
If you don’t have a bunch of products, you can still use the shelf for other things. Such as displaying really nice shoes or purses, a makeup organizer, to add extra decor, and organizing your clothes.
