Do you have a small bedroom that needs to be organized ASAP? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Just because you have a smaller size room doesn’t mean it can’t look cute. Take it from me, I had to share a bedroom with my sister until I moved out for college.
Even though I would’ve had a lot more extra space If I didn’t have to share with my sister, we still found a way to make the bedroom look as cute as possible and organized. I did have to lock a few of my drawers because she wouldn’t stop stealing my stuff, haha!
Typically, the main concern when you have a smaller bedroom is the lack of space (obviously since it’s a small room). Especially if you are a woman, you’ll have a lot more things that need to be organized and stored away. Makeup, skincare, hair care, clothes, accessories, shoes, etc.

SMALL BEDROOM IDEAS
1. MAKE SURE ROOM IS CLUTTER-FREE
This is something everyone probably already knows but, the number one thing to ensure your room doesn’t feel overly crowded and small is making sure it’s clutter-free.
If you have any dirty clothes just lying around, place them in the laundry basket. I also recommend making your bed every morning. Trust me, it makes your room look a lot nicer and more open.
Don’t forget to vacuum your room every once in a while just so it remains looking clean as possible.
PRO TIP: If your carpet is looking or smelling a little funky lately, sprinkle some baking soda and essential oils all over.
Leave it for a few hours and then vacuum. This will make your room smell fresh and make your carpet look nicer as well.
2. GET A STORAGE BED
When it comes to a small bedroom, it’s important to make the most out of the space you have. Which is why I recommend opting for a bed with storage drawers.
You can store practically anything you want in there. I had one for years and I just kept extra clothes in there. That’s another thing you can utilize the storage drawers for.
Keep the clothes you won’t be wearing all year round in there. For example, once the winter season is over, store away your jackets and sweaters because you won’t be wearing them during the summer.
So there is no need for them to take up space that you can put to better use.
3. UTILIZE IKEA KALLAX
There is a reason why this shelf unit is so popular. And that’s because it is insanely versatile. One way you can use this shelf unit is by turning it into a nightstand.
Keep your lamp, decor, and your essentials on the surface and all of your other things in the units.
I suggest you get a couple of woven baskets and place your items in there before adding them to the Ikea Kallax. This way, people won’t see what’s inside and your bedroom will look much more cohesive.
You can also use it to store clothes, as a shoe organizer, or to keep your skincare. The amount of ways you can use this shelf unit is incredible.
4. FLOATING VANITY
A makeup vanity is a must for me. It just makes my whole mood brighten up when I’m sitting in my cute little chair and getting ready for the day.
But if your room doesn’t have a lot of extra space, then chances are you can’t get a full-size vanity in there.
Do not worry though, you can DIY a small floating vanity that works just the same but takes up very little space. Get yourself a floating shelf and install it in the desired wall space.
That’s basically it, haha! You can buy a little cabinet to store your makeup in and place that under the shelf.
Get yourself a cute little chair, a mirror, add some decor, and voila! You’ve got a nice vanity in your room.
5. USE YOUR WALL SPACE
Utilizing your wall space is key when it comes to a small bedroom. You can do so much with it and it won’t be taking up any floor space.
If you are running out of space to store your things, you can install some baskets on the wall. This is a cheap and easy way to create more storage space.
If you are worried about damaging the walls, I recommend you use command hooks or push pins.
6. KEEP THINGS ORGANIZED
This goes without saying but the messier your room is, the smaller it will look. So make sure you keep your things nice and organized.
If you have a lot of accessories, shoes, perfumes, or personal care items, I suggest you buy a cabinet to store your things.
You can install hooks to hang your bags, get an acrylic stand for your perfumes, and add a pop of color with some flowers to make it look pretty.
7. BED FRAME WITH STORAGE
I would probably roll right over from this bed. It is just too high for my liking, haha! But, this is a great idea to store your things.
You won’t have to spend extra cash to buy a cabinet or a chest because your bed frame already has all the storage space you need.
Now, if you’re like me and need something a little less high, I’ve found a great one on Amazon that I’ll link below.
8. COZY BEDROOM
I know small bedrooms aren’t ideal because you generally don’t have a lot of space to work with. But, I just love how cozy everything looks and feels.
If you want a bedroom like this, start with your bedding. Get a set of simple white sheets, a nice comforter, and of course, a fluffy blanket to snuggle up in.
I usually keep five pillows on my bed just because I find that is what looks best for me but, you can totally add more or less depending on your preference.
Add some cute pictures of you, your friends, and family to make it more homier. You can also use the walls to add decorative accents or some floating shelves to create extra space.
Last but not least, hang up some fairy lights. Those are my absolute favorites. Not only are they cheap, they will make your bedroom look so much more cozier. It’s just a must for me.
9. INCORPORATE FLOATING SHELVES
One insanely cheap way to create extra space and add more personality to your room is by incorporating floating shelves.
This can be above your bed, by your vanity, or literally on any open wall space. Keep things like books, plants, and decorative items on there to brighten up the room.
You can also keep some of your bags, accessories, and nice shoes there as well. If you’re going to buy plants, I suggest getting small succulents just so it doesn’t overwhelm your room.
10. BOHO BEDROOM
If you are a fan of the boho aesthetic, this bedroom is an excellent choice to recreate. Most bohemian bedrooms use a lot of brick and tan tones.
So make sure to stick with that color pallet. Add some cute wall art, lots of plants, knitted blankets, and some decorative pillows.
11. USE A LADDER SHELF
One of my favorite inventions ever is ladder shelves. They are great for displaying items and for organization as well.
Keep your books, shoes, bags, and decorations on the shelves. I recommend you keep this by your door or next to your window since those spaces are usually left empty.
12. CREATE A GALLERY WALL
Gallery walls are great for filling up empty wall space and for adding a bit of personality to your room.
No matter the size of your bedroom, small or large, you can easily incorporate this idea into your space. You’ll need some picture frames and cute photos.
This can be of your friends and family, or some aesthetically pleasing pictures of nature, flowers, or anything else you want.
I suggest you get the same color frames for a more cohesive look. You’ll want to measure out the spaces between each picture and decide where you want to create your gallery wall.
I personally love the look above the bed because when people come inside, that’s usually the first thing they see.
You can also hang up the pictures on the wall of your bed, by your vanity, or even above your nightstand.
13. BOOKCASE NEXT TO BED
Small bedrooms barely have enough space for all of your things, this is where the bookcase comes in! Instead of buying a nightstand, I suggest you buy a sturdy bookcase with lots of shelves.
Sometimes these bookcases can be even cheaper than nightstands and offer much more room.
Make sure you look for one that is narrow but still has a decent amount of space so it doesn’t make the room feel crowded.
Just because it’s a bookcase doesn’t mean you only have to store books there. You can use it for anything you want. You can keep some outfits you’ve planned on wearing there.
Just so it’s easily accessible and you’ll have more free space in the closest. You can also use the shelves to add more decorations, keep your daily shoes there, or for actual books as well.
14. STORAGE UNIT NEXT TO YOUR BED
This is along the same lines as number 13 but just as good. Get a large storage unit from Ikea or Amazon and keep it next to your bed. You can place any and everything you’d like there.
If you go to college, keep your textbooks there. The units can also serve as a display for all of your home decor. If you have a really nice bag or a pair of shoes, you can display them there as well.
This is also a clever way to separate your “rooms” if you live in a studio apartment.
15. SMALL VANITY
If you want a place where you can sit and do your makeup in the morning, get yourself a small vanity from Amazon. They have a variety of options to choose from and are affordable.
If you don’t want your room to feel overly crowded, you can keep the vanity next to your bed instead of a nightstand.
The vanity can also double as a nightstand as well. You can place all of the things you normally would on a nightstand, on the surface of the vanity.
Things like a table lamp, lip balm, and the current book you’re reading are a few things to include.
If you still need more space for your makeup or other essentials, get a tiny cabinet and keep it under the vanity. You can also get a makeup stool with built-in storage.
16. CUTE DESK
If you are a college student or work a corporate job, chances are you’re going to need a home office to do your homework or assignments.
If you don’t have an extra room in your home to create an office, just use your bedroom. Get a desk from Amazon that offers a lot of storage and looks nice.
Make sure to measure the length and width of your space before ordering. Now you’ll just need to find an area for your desk.
I suggest away from the window so you don’t get any glare on your computer. Maybe by the door or next to your bed.
Make sure to make it look pretty with some decorations and faux plants.
17. VERTICAL SHELF FOR BOOKS
Generally, people don’t put anything behind the door because they’re afraid the door will slam into whatever it is when you open it.
While that is true, it mostly only happens when you open a door with force. And when it comes to a small bedroom, you need to make every inch count.
If you read a lot of books or just need some extra shelves to keep your things on, get a vertical shelf unit from Amazon. They look ridiculously amazing and barely take up any space.
18. ROLLING CART AS NIGHTSTAND
This is one of my favorite small bedroom ideas. I actually used a 3-tiered rolling cart myself when I was living in a college dorm room.
You can use the cart as a nightstand and keep it next to your bed. Place all of your night essentials on top, some books in the middle, and your makeup/skincare in a pouch on the bottom.
If for some reason you need to move this out of the way, you won’t be struggling to pick it up. You can simply roll it out of your way and put it back without hassle.
19. MIRROR JEWELRY ORGANIZER
I actually have one of these in my room and let me tell you, it is without a doubt the best thing I have ever purchased.
I think everyone needs a full-length mirror in their room. Before you head out the door, you’ll want to make sure your makeup matches your neck, your outfit is looking cute, and that your hair is not looking crazy.
I’ve been told one too many times that my makeup is a different shade by my friends, haha! Now I always double-check.
The great thing about a mirror jewelry organizer is that you can store all of your accessories inside.
If you’re someone who misplaces their earrings or forgets where you left them, this is perfect because you can store them all in the same place.
20. OVER THE DOOR ORGANIZER
Have a lot of bags and accessories but no space to keep them? No problem there, buy an over-the-door storage solution from Ikea or Amazon.
They are very easy to install and are affordable. You can organize all of your bags, shoes, and other accessories that you don’t have room for in your bedroom.
21. USE A CLOTHING RACK
Everyone knows you barely have any closet space in a small bedroom. There is an easy fix to that. Buy a clothing rack from Amazon and hang up the rest of your clothes that don’t fit in your closet.
I suggest you hang up the clothes you’re going to wear for that week. Plan out your outfits ahead of time, and gather your shoes and the accessories you’re going to wear.
This way you’re prepared and won’t have to go rummaging through your closet to find something to wear.
