SMALL BEDROOM IDEAS:
1. UTILIZE WALL SHElVES
If you have a small bedroom, chances are you’re not going to have much storage space or areas where you can decorate. One solution for this problem is utilizing floating wall shelves. You can get these from Amazon or IKEA. If you’re trying to save a little extra cash, I suggest buying it from Amazon because it is cheaper and the quality is just as good.
You can use these shelves to make your space feel cozier by adding decor or you can use it for extra storage space. You can place bins and baskets atop the shelves and keep all of your things there (clothes, jewelry, books, shoes, etc.).
One of my favorite things about this idea is that it doesn’t take up any floor space so your small bedroom won’t feel too cramped.
2. MAKE SURE IT’S CLUTTER FREE
THE number #1 thing that makes any space ( big or small), feel and look smaller is clutter. Make sure you keep your room neat and clean by storing away anything that doesn’t belong. Put your dirty clothes in the laundry, fold your clothes, make your bed, and keep things organized.
These are all things that you can do to make sure your bedroom is mess-free. I would also suggest vacuuming your room once a week to make sure everything is clean. I don’t know if I’m the only one but, I love the lines on the carpet after being freshly vacuumed!
TIP #1: If your carpet is feeling a bit dingy, There is a simple way to deodorize and make it smell fresh again. Mix some baking soda and essential oils together and sprinkle it liberally all over the carpet. Wait at least 2 hours before vacuuming and for better results, leave it overnight.
3. MAKE USE OF THE WALL
When you have a small bedroom, you need to make use of every single nook and cranny available, including the wall. The wall is one of the best areas to utilize for storage and decor. As I mentioned above, a vertical floating wall shelf will quickly become your best friend for all things storage and organization.
Another way you can use wall space is by creating a little vanity. I know you’re probably thinking “How the h*ll am I supposed to do that”. But it’s actually quite simple. You can buy a floating vanity from Pottery Barn or Wayfair and just install that on the wall. Doing this will save you a lot of space and honestly is WAY less expensive than buying a full-on makeup vanity.
TIP #2: If buying a floating vanity is still out of your budget, you can just buy two long floating shelves and create that into one instead. It’ll look just as good but you’ll be spending a lot less money. The only downside in doing this is you won’t have drawers or a mirror. But that’s a really easy fix.
4. USE IKEA KALLAX SHELF UNIT
We all know how popular the IKEA Kallax shelf units are and for good reason. Not only do they look sleek and stylish, they are AMAZING for storage. It can be used as a makeshift dresser to store your clothes, but for keeping things organized as well!
You can insert wire baskets or any kind of storage basket to store all kinds of things. Instead of getting a nightstand, I suggest you buy this instead. It’s highly efficient and it stores a lot more things than a small nightstand.
5. FLOATING SHELVES ABOVE BED
Using floating shelves above your bed is another incredible way to keep things organized and add another element to your bedroom. Place things like plants and books on there to add a bit of nature and personality.
I recommend you get faux plants instead of real ones because they last forever and you don’t need to take care of them. Except maybe an occasional dusting of the stems.
TIP #3: When buying a bed for your room, I suggest taking into account how much space you actually have. I know it seems pretty obvious but you have no idea how many people will buy a king-sized bed and have zero space leftover for their things.
If you have a really small bedroom, I wouldn’t recommend getting a bed larger than a twin. Especially if it’s only you sleeping there.
6. ONLY THE BASICS
If you’re looking for small bedroom ideas for an extremely tiny space, this is the one for you! When working with a small space, you need to take into account how many things you’re keeping in there. What I mean by this is, the more clutter you have in your bedroom, the smaller your space will feel.
To avoid making your space feel cramped, keep only the basics and essentials that you need and/or use.
- Nightstand – This one’s pretty obvious, but I suggest you keep a nightstand next to your bed or any kind of storage unit. An IKEA Kallax storage unit is a great alternative that offers plenty of storage space without taking up a lot of room itself.
- Dresser – In most cases, if you have a small bedroom, you’ll also be stuck with a small closet that’s next to useless. If that’s the case, you’ll definitely be needing a dresser to keep all of your clothes in.
- Minimal Decor – Don’t take up all of your space trying to make your bedroom “aesthetically pleasing”. A cute picture, a vase with faux stems, candle, and a few wall decorations are more than enough to make your bedroom presentable and pretty.
7. USE A CLOTHING RACK AND LADDER SHELVES
This is one of my favorite small bedroom ideas! We all know how little closet space we have in small bedrooms, so using a clothing rack is a great way to maximize storage space for your clothes. Another thing I love about clothing racks are that they are great for convenience and displaying your favorite clothing items.
You can hang up your outfit for the following day and you can just grab and go. Which is super convenient, especially when you are in a rush. You can also use ladder shelves to place your shoes, bags, books, and other miscellaneous things.
8. CREATE A GALLERY WALL
Creating a gallery wall is super easy and simple and can be done with even the tiniest bedrooms. All you’ll need are picture frames, which you can find on Amazon for really cheap and some cute photos. These pictures can be of you and your loved ones or you can print out really cute and aesthetically pleasing pictures from Etsy. It all depends on your preference.
I know most people like to leave the space above there bed empty or just hang up a single, large picture, but creating a gallery wall will look just as good if not better!
9. BED WITH STORAGE DRAWERS
If you want more storage but don’t want to clutter up the room with storage bins and cabinets, then buy a bed with drawers! This is honestly one of the BEST ways to get more storage space. Plus, these drawers will come in handy if you’re a super messy person.
You can store all of your unwanted things there or stuff that you use but doesn’t look good out. Since I live in a dorm room, I use square storage bins to place clothes, makeup, shoes, other belongings and keep them under the bed. The same can be done with the drawers. And bonus points because no one’s going to be looking there. It’s a win win!
10. USE A STORAGE CHEST AS A BEDSIDE TABLE
Storage chests or any kind of cabinet with drawers are a great alternative for the classic bedside table. They offer SO much more space than a regular nightstand which is absolutely vital when you have a small bedroom. You can find plenty of amazing options on Amazon ranging from low to high prices.
Plus, you’ll still have the surface of the cabinet where you can keep your table lamp, candle, lip balm, or anything you usually keep there.
TIP #4: This is another one of my favorite small bedroom ideas which you can incorporate to your own bedroom as well. One thing I’ve found that makes a tiny space look bigger, is placing your bed on either side of the room and not in the middle.
Take this small bedroom for example, it looks very neat, spacious, and put together right? Now imagine if the bed was in the middle instead of by the wall. I don’t think it would look as good as it does and would for sure feel a lot smaller.
11. SIMPLE BEDROOM
When you have a small bedroom, simple is the way to go! Hangup minimal decor and keep only things that you need and use in your bedroom. Doing this will ensure you have a spacious room that isn’t cluttered or cramped.
TIP #5: One thing I’ve found that makes your room feel bigger is hanging your curtains Higher than your window. This will make your space feel more open and is such a simple trick that every interior designer swears by!
12. CREATE A GORGEOUS DESK
If you go to college or work from home you’re going to need a desk. Usually, most people like to create a separate office space but if you don’t have an extra room to spare, you can create a cute little desk in your bedroom.
Get one with lots of storage space and drawers to keep all of your things organized. You can also hangup floating shelves above your bed or on an empty wall for additional storage space.
13. HANG UP FAUX VINES
If you’re looking for small bedroom ideas that are super inexpensive, then hanging up artificial vines is a great idea. They are extremely cheap on Amazon and are a great way to fill up empty wall space.
It also adds a bit of personality to your room and brightens up the space. You can also incorporate artificial hanging wall plants to add some nature.
14. UTILIZE YOUR HEADBOARD
One of the easiest ways to decorate a small bedroom is using the wall space above your bed and your headboard. There are plenty of options you can choose from that is within your budget.
I recommend checking out Wayfair for these headboards. I found A LOT on there that are not over the top pricey and they have different styles as well. If you need a little more space to keep your things organized, I suggest you get one that looks like a bookcase.
15. USE TWINKLE LIGHTS
Adding twinkle lights to your walls is another great and inexpensive way to decorate your small bedroom. Get them off of Amazon for an affordable price.
Twinkle lights are also great for adding the perfect illumination to your bedroom.
16. STORAGE UNIT NEXT TO BED
It can be very challenging to make everything fit in a tiny space. That’s where the storage units come in! Keep them right next to your bed and place any and everything you want in there. You can keep books, shoes, clothes, and other items there while making sure it still looks cute!
If you go to college or work from home and prefer doing things on your bed, I suggest you also get yourself a cute little laptop standing table. This is super convenient and it will save your back since you won’t have keep slouching and looking down.
17. CHANDELIER
I LOVE chandeliers! I would much rather have them in my room than the boring old overhead lighting. Chandeliers make your space feel and look like luxury even though it’s not. You don’t have to spend a ton of money for them either. You can get them for as low as $20 on Amazon.
Talk about a steal! They are a great centerpiece for over the bed and will for sure make the space feel more welcoming and expensive!
18. BOOKCASE AT THE END OF YOUR BED
This is such a clever small bedroom idea but I’m pretty sure it’s custom built. But worry not because you can still create a gorgeous bookcase at the end of your bed with the IKEA shelf units for a fraction of the price.
I’ve seen a lot of people DIY a custom built in in their homes. If you want to give this a try you can search for an easy tutorial on YouTube or Google. Or an even better idea, get your dad or husband to do it for you (LOL)!
19. BOHO BEDROOM
If you’re looking for boho small bedroom ideas, this is a great inspiration to take notes from. The number one thing I find in most boho bedrooms are a macrame. You can hang up plants, tapestries, and of course wall decor.
Make sure you stick to earth tones for your bedroom like blush and tan. Throw in a few knitted blankets and faux pampas grass for the finishing touches!
That’s the end of the 19 best small bedroom ideas! I hope you guys found this blog post helpful and got some inspo for your own small bedroom!
